The process of migrating to a new place transforms one’s sense of self, creating a blending of personal values, views of otherness and integration, and cultural reconstruction. To understand how proximity to migration affect identity, I’m interviewing those who:
moved to the U.S. as immigrants, both as adults and children,
were born in the U.S. to immigrant parents, including those who have one immigrant and one U.S.-born parent, and
with historic migration experiences (grandparents, great-grandparents, etc.).
These experiences live across many contexts and create a richness that can go unspoken. By bringing awareness to personal migration experiences, we recognize and honor the diversity and depth that migration weaves into our communities.
